  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 2¼ tsp instant dry yeast
  • 120 g sugar
  • 240 ml lukewarm milk
  • 60 g unsalted melted butter cooled to room temperature
  • 1 egg at room temperature
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract or essence
  • 900 g apples (Pink Lady, Fuji, or Royal Gala)
  • 60 g unsalted butter
  • 170 g brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and yeast. In another bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla.
  2. Blend wet ingredients into dry ingredients until a soft dough forms. Knead until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
  4. While rising, melt butter in a saucepan; add chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water until tender.
  5. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread apple filling evenly over it.
  6. Roll tightly into a log shape and cut into 10 equal pieces. Place in a greased baking dish.
  7. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 40 minutes until golden brown.
