  • 227 g unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 12 oz cream cheese (cold)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, dark brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and spices until combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat unsalted butter and then mix in milk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients using an electric mixer on low speed until just mixed.
  5. Divide the batter into the prepared pans and bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans before transferring to a rack.
  6. For the frosting, beat room temperature butter and cold cream cheese until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar until fluffy.
  7. Once cakes are completely cooled, frost between layers and on top/sides.
