  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tablespoons chicken broth or veggie broth
  • 2 teaspoons rice apple vinegar or rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons honey or brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 small to medium onion, sliced
  • 1 small to medium red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 carrot, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 scallions, sliced thinly
  • Sesame seeds for garnishing
  • Steamed rice

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef: In a medium bowl, combine sliced beef with soy sauce, black pepper, and cornstarch. Let it marinate for 15-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the stir fry sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, broth, honey or brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and cornstarch; set aside.
  3. Cook the beef: Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Cook marinated beef in batches for about 3 minutes until golden brown. Set aside.
  4. Sauté vegetables: Add remaining oil to the pan and stir-fry onions, bell pepper, and carrots for about 4 minutes until tender-crisp.
  5. Add broccoli: Stir in broccoli florets and cook for another 2 minutes until crisp-tender.
  6. Combine everything: Return beef to the pan with vegetables; pour in the stir fry sauce and cook while tossing for about 2 minutes until thickened.
  7. Serve: Garnish with scallions and sesame seeds if desired.
