Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Grease muffin tray.
  2. In a bowl, combine molasses and butter; microwave until melted. Stir and cool slightly.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Mix brown sugar, sour cream, milk, and egg into the molasses mixture.
  5. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients; mix until just combined.
  6. Fill muffin tray to the top and sprinkle coarse sugar if desired.
  7. Bake for 5 minutes at 425°F; then reduce temperature to 350°F and bake for an additional 11–14 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before glazing with powdered sugar mixed with lemon juice.
